With that being said, Faro establishes itself as a holiday destination in its own right. Read our highlights to discover why a holiday in Faro is the ideal choice for you.
Praia de Faro beach
Faro’s favourite beach appears almost completely untouched and that is because it is. This stunning beach comprised of golden sand and turquoise water is hardly ever overcrowded, even in peak season. If you ever do encounter too many people, a short walk to nearby coves will lead to more untouched sand and sublime water.
Ria Formosa Park
This Natural Park is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal and so is not to be missed on your holiday to Faro. The park can be discovered by boat and boasts stunning scenery composed of salt water lagoons and mud flats. If you are an avid bird-watcher or love wildlife then this is the ideal trip for you.
This fascinating nearby town is home to an exquisite palace which is one of the Algarve’s finest examples of 19th century Rococo styled buildings. This now-turned-hotel is painted a distinct colour of pink and is surrounded by beautiful gardens which non-hotel guests are free to roam about. Another distinct sight is the Roman Villa of Milreu which keeps some of the best preserved remains in the Algarve as well as some very impressive mosaic images.
